Bedworth 21pts, Evesham 15

EVESHAM were unlucky not to continue in their winning vein at Bedworth on Saturday in their first Midlands West 3 (South) League match of the season.

Bedworth opened the scoring with a converted try following a scrum in the Evesham 22.

This disappointing start was followed by a penalty and left Evesham reeling and ten points down.

Evesham rallied briefly but could only muster an unconverted try by hooker Dominic Capaldi in the right hand corner.

Both sides failed to take their chances in the rest of the half that was punctuated by the referee's whistle and constant injury interruptions.

Turning round five points adrift Evesham reduced the deficit with a drop goal from Phil Parsons. But they almost immediately conceded another penalty to trail 21 - 10.

The game continued to disappoint as a spectacle and, with 20 minutes remaining, centre Pat Johnson left the field to be replaced by Tom Archer.

In the dying minutes Evesham scored a converted try through Parsons in the corner. Unfortunately, two earlier penalty misses were to prove costly.

The back row trio of Jim Moulton, Luke Mathers and Lloyd Jiles all performed well in an overall disappointing team performance.

Evesham travel to Kings Norton on Saturday for their second league encounter of the season.
