A NEW police campaign aims to cut accidents on the A449 including the notorious main route between Kidderminster and Worcester.

Speeding and bad driving will be targeted in a two-week operation from Monday involving Kidderminster police traffic units.

Traffic management officer PC Julian Turner said police were greatly encouraged that previous campaigns had contributed to cutting out fatal accidents altogether on the 20-mile route last year and a great reduction in the number of serious accidents.

But minor accidents had increased to 46 and police believed there needed to be continuing efforts to reduce poor driving and to enforce speed limits.

The total route included in the campaign extends from the Staffordshire boundary to the Claines roundabout at Worcester.
