ROSS Baxter makes Aston Old Edwardians favourites for Satur-day's Midlands West One rugby union clash with Kidderminster Carolians at Marlpool Lane.

The KC's coach thinks the Birmingham side have turned the corner after suffering a horrendous season last term as the whipping boys of the division.

They have won their first three games of the season in fine style and should bring an expansive, entertaining style of rugby to the match.

KCs began their season with a tight 11-9 home win over Telford last Saturday, but Baxter believes his side will have to improve if they are to get a result at the weekend.

It will be a relief to Baxter if the visitors do play attractively after Telford's spoiling tactics on Satur-day. The Shropshire side gave away 51 penalties in the match which, was never allowed to flow.

Baxter said: "It was a pretty awful game and it was normal start of season stuff with both teams coming to terms with playing again.

"However, I think our lads were a bit frustrated because they were not allowed to actually get the ball and play.

"It was always going to be a game where the team making the least amount of mistakes came out on top and it proved to be the case. We were a bit disappointed with the kicking display but the main thing was we got the result and I don't think we ever really looked in danger of losing the match."

KCs look set to stick with the same side which battled past Telford in the Aston encounter.

Baxter added: "We still have a number of long-term injuries so we are having to pick from quite a small squad at present.

"The main thing we want is a settled side with which to work on things in training and in the matches.

"The Aston game will be a good test for us and hopefully it will be an entertaining game after the Telford match."
