IT was raining goals at Bewdley Town's Ribbesford Meadows ground where the home side hammered visitors Chaddesley Corbett 9-4 in Division One South of the Banks's Brewery League on Saturday.

The two teams had only conceded three goals between them before their meeting but the local derby started in a blaze of action with two goals and a sending off with barely eight minutes gone.

Grant Gibbs created Bewdley's first goal with a low cross that veteran striker Steve Mares toe-poked home. Chaddesley fought back and equalised when Chris Bow pounced with a shot over advancing keeper Tom Stewart.

Chaddesley were reduced to 10 men when Jamie Gardiner was shown a red card for allegedly raising his fist to an opponent.

Some slack marking allowed Paul Matthews to race through and restore Bewdley's lead and the home side took complete control in the second half.

Star striker Gibbs went on a one-man demolition job and rammed home five goals to leave Chaddesley reeling.

Former Chaddesley favourite Dave Harris scored two goals in between Gibbs' one- man show. Although Chaddesley's defence was ripped apart, the visitors still managed to cause problems going forward and scored three goals themselves.

Richard Burton hit a 30-yarder which flew into the Bewdley net while Ashley Phillips scored with a brave diving header before Burton netted again from close range.

Chaddesley face another local derby on Saturday when they entertain Brintons Athletic in another league game at their Longmore ground. Players should meet at the ground at 2pm.
