I WAS so amazed to read the views expressed to your reporter (Journal September 14) by Mr Gaden of Bourton-on-the-Hill, that I felt I must publicly, on behalf of the other signatories of the Village Petition, confirm our thanks to Councillor Dare and the County Environment Committee for the steps they are taking in an attempt to alleviate the problem described by their Cotswold Traffic Manager, who said in his report it was difficult to think of any other location in the county where the problem of lorry intrusion was as severe as at Bourton-on-the-Hill.
We should not ignore the benefits to Woodstock, Chipping Norton and Moreton-in-Marsh in addition to Bourton-on-the-Hill and the fact that there is certainly no intention to direct lorries through the centre of any other town or village.
Rather than publicly to express the view that lorries are expected to ignore it, may I urge that all possible steps are taken to persuade lorries to adhere to the advisory route.
LESLIE BADGER, The Firs, Bourton-on-the-Hill.
