CONTINUED support for a series of classical music concerts in the Vale of Evesham has given a village church a new lease of life.

Charlton Church Chamber Concerts were originally set up to raise funds for the restoration of the building but have continued to go from strength to strength.

Now, the latest series is due to begin on Saturday, seeing a return visit of pianist Julian Mitford who will be bringing with him flautist Emily Pailthorpe and her clarinettist husband Daniel.

Organiser Charlotte Ooi said: "While it is not possible to raise money from classical music without generous sponsorship, the concerts have raised awareness and enthusiasm for our cause.

"It certainly raises my spirits to see the church in scaffolding undergoing essential repairs."

She added: "I am delighted and immensely grateful for the fact that each and every concert has been well attended and to be able to share my love of music with so many."

Emily Pailthorpe first came to public notice as the youngest player ever to win the Gillet International Oboe Competition.

She has appeared as principal oboist with various orchestras in America including the Dallas Opera and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and is currently principal oboist of the Spoleto Festival in Italy.

Daniel Pailthorpe is principal flute with the English National Opera and is also much in demand as a freelance player. Tickets are available from Hampton Farm Shop, Pershore Road, Evesham, Cropthorne Post Office, or on 1386 861130.
