BEWDLEY Cricket Club wound up the Worcestershire County League Division Two season with a thrilling win against Brockhampton and must now wait to see if their efforts result in promotion.

Bewdley got off to a slow but solid start from Paul Beard and Mark Bennett. Simon Smith again batted freely, but a sticky spell in the middle of the innings made a high total impossible.

Charlie Combes injected some urgency hitting two mighty sixes, and Mark Hudson ran out of partners when well set.

Chasing Bewdley's total of 143, Brockhampton seemed on target for a comfortable win on 105-4, but Bennett took two wickets in an over and Mark Edwards ripped through the rest of the batting.

Amid great tension the last wicket fell with Brockhampton on 131 and Edwards finished with 6-48 to take his season's tally to an impressive 56 wickets.

Brockhampton 2nd v Bewdley 2nd.

Match drawn.

On a damp wicket, Brockhampton rattled up a challenging 223-7.

Bewdley's bowling was reasonably tight, but an outbreak of dropped catches cost them dear.

In reply Bewdley lost Andy Robinson for a duck, but Peter Harler and Steve Brown then punished some short-pitched bowling in a stand of 77.

David Mills contributed well again, but the target receded as wickets fell.

A late flurry from Mark and Steve Venross brought Bewdley within striking distance of a fourth batting point, and it was left to last man Andrew Stannard to pull the last ball of the match for four to bring up the magic 201-9.
