BROMSGROVE Rovers' participation in this year's FA Cup ended as they put on another meek against Oldbury United.

On Saturday they should have won despite a poor performance, only a last-gasp equaliser denying them, but last night's replay saw their Midland Alliance opponents well worth the 2-0 victory.

The rain lashed down throughout and you had to feel sorry for the visiting fans who had nothing to shout about as Rovers were non-existent as an attacking force.

Oldbury adjusted well to the marsh-like conditions and had the game won in the first half thanks to two well-executed goals.

Neil Hesson put them ahead, latching onto a through ball and outpacing the Rovers defence before angling a shot past Nore Gabbidon from the edge of the box.

He was also involved in the second goal on the half-hour as his clever dummy fooled Greens and Kevin Banner was able to profit.

Playing conditions were terrible and getting worse. Even so, Rovers players would've preferred to stay on the pitch to avoid the wrath of manager George Rooney at the interval.

But whatever was said had little effect as Rovers continued to show little appetite for the contest.

As the puddles on the pitch became lakes, even Richard Burgess couldn't lift the visitors and with 93 minutes on the clock Rovers had their first chance, but Peter Sutton's header was comfortably dealt with by keeper Steve Johnson.

Oldbury now entertain Stourport Swifts in the second qualifying round on September 30.
