APIECE of cheese, one out of six portions in a packet bought in Redditch town centre, turned out to be mouldy when opened up by a seven-year-old girl.

The county analyst's report on the segment of cheese described it as "a diffused mass of mould growth of a green black colour."

"The age of the mould growth would be measured in weeks rather than days," it added.

Councillor Horace Shakels observed that the cheese had been bought by the little girl's granny.

One of the dangers, he pointed out, was that old people whose senses were failing might actually eat food like that and become ill without realising it.
