AN energetic prisoner is getting in training to complete a marathon challenge to raise cash for a Catshill school.

Peter Beaumont, who is serving time at Hewell Grange Prison, in Tardebigge, plans to run a marathon around the grounds of the jail.

The 46-year-old will need to run around the prison 27 times in order to complete the 26.2 miles. He is already getting in practice.

Chadsgrove School

Two weeks ago, Peter completed 23 laps and is now on target for the event next Saturday.

Cash raised on the day will go towards Chadsgrove School, in Meadow Road, which cares for physically disabled children.

Senior prison officer Tony Wright, in charge of physical education, said: "Peter has done all the administration himself, including writing to sports and football clubs for sponsorship.

"Customers at our prison shop are also backing him along with staff and inmates."
