BSTRATFORD'S petrol forecourts ground to a halt yesterday(Tuesday) after a false warning of fresh blockades sparked a stampeded by motorists fearful of being left high and dry again.

Welsh independent radio station, Red Dragon, reported yesterday (Tuesday) that it was rumoured that the blockades at oil refineries were due to start again and the announcement spread like wildfire via mobile phone and email. By lunchtime the whole country had heard the rumours.

The Chinese Whispers led to chaos at filling stations when motorists stampeded back towards the pumps to beat the rush and all stations in Stratford were gridlocked for most of the afternoon.

Managers of local fuel stations said they still had long queues early yesterday evening, despite repeated news bulletins informing drivers the rumours were untrue and there would be no shortage.
