THE protest wasn't just cobbled together when Belbroughton campaigners opposed to plans to build a house in the middle of a conservation area voted with their feet.

Fifteen residents, along with approximately 150 pairs of shoes, turned out when members of Bromsgrove District Council's planning and highways committee paid a visit to the site, in High Street, on Thursday.

Councillors were inspecting the site to see if the proposed plan to build a three-bedroomed house in the garden of a home in High Street was viable.

Last month, more than 100 residents gathered to protest about the scheme when councillors were set for a site visit.

But the visit was cancelled at the last minute because of an administration error.

Concerned residents, who did not wanted to intimidate councillors, decided to limit their numbers to just 15 this time and laid out the shoes to represent the huge amount of opposition to the scheme.

Protester Sarah Bradley said: "We had about 150 pairs of shoes and used them to spell out Vote No and then lined the rest up.

"It all went very well as far as we were concerned.

"The important thing is the site visit took place so they could see the problems for themselves."

The scheme, submitted by Hagley-based Hawkstone Properties, was set to be discussed on Monday but the planning committee meeting was cancelled due to the petrol crisis.

It now looks set to be discussed this Monday.
