THE current reaction to the obscene elements of tax in motor fuels highlights the need for the electorate to vote for any party which dares to raise the rates of income tax and wipes out (as far as EU dictates allow) unfair indirect taxation.

The barely visible VAT and other indirect taxes hit the poor the most and the rich the least.

Are those with £50,000 incomes travelling less? No! Does the tax on fuel increase the price of essentials to the poor and average earners? Of course!

Don't be misled by promises of lower income tax. The attempt in the 1700s at indirect taxes was at least fair. More income, bigger houses, more windows.
