INKBERROW rider Leslie Law has won an Olympic Silver medal in Sydney as part of the Great Britain Equestrian Three day event team.

Leslie, aged 34, who runs a stable in Inkberrow with his partner, previously suffered disappointment at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics when his horse went lame and he didn't get to compete.

There were no such problems this time around and he achieved a clear round on day two in the cross-country section of the event on his horse Shear H20.

The team was close to catching Australia in gold medal position with just the showjumping to go, but Ian Stark's fall at the water jump on day two left them too much to do.

l In swimming, Redditch's James Salter swam in the final of the 200 metres freestyle in a time of 1:48:74, close to his personal best, to finish in sixth place. He was just behind Britain's Paul Palmer who broke his own British national record and took part in one of the races of the games so far, when Aussie hero 17-year-old Ian Thorpe was pipped to achieving a hat-trick of gold medals by Pieter van den Hoogenband of Holland.
