Worcestershire Care Group, based in the 400-year-old Warwick Hall, in Bromsgrove, was nominated for its forward-looking approach to residential care.
Dianne Ewin set up the group 13 years ago with her accountant husband, Stephen, after working as a nurse for several years. Her approach was for nurses to take the lead.
Staff receive extensive training in-house and at college, and the group won a National Training Award for developing a scheme for nurses before an NVQ existed.
The home is also one of the first in the country to offer re-ablement beds which allow the elderly to return to their homes and relieve pressure on hospital beds.
