POLICE are investigating an arson attack on a derelict house in Portway just after midnight last Wednesday.

The incident happened at the detached three-bedroom house known as The Croft on Alcester Road near Beoley.

Police said they believed the house, which is set back from the road in an isolated position and in a poor state of repair, had been used by people sleeping rough.

The blaze, which was attended by several fire crews from three counties, started inside the house and quickly spread throughout the premises.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control within two hours after it had caused extensive damage to the house and, in particular the roof.
