REDDITCH people without TV licences are coming under the spotlight this month as TV Licensing's Target Zero campaign cracks down in the area.

Detection teams are taking to the streets this month in a drive against TV licence dodgers in the B postcode area.

Target Zero is a national campaign to target all addresses with the aim of achieving zero evasion.

Last Wednesday, 21 Redditch people appeared before magistrates charged with TV licence evasion.

A TV Licensing spokesman said: "The courts in Redditch are always busy with people who have failed to buy a TV licence.

"And although Target Zero is still at an early stage as it runs through the whole of September, it's already proving to be extremely effective.

"We want to stress to anybody in Redditch who does not have a licence but thinks they won't get caught that they will."

Regional manager Steve Taylor said: "Birmingham is currently the second worst area in Britain for TV Licence evasion, beaten only by Glasgow.

"Officers will use equipment to target TV viewers who have the means to pay for a licence, yet refuse to do so."

People who have difficulty paying for their licence can call TV Licensing customer services on 08705 763763.
