Through your columns, I would like to thank the six people, all total strangers, who came to my aid when my dog received a serious injury in the pond in Morton Stanley Park.

First, the two couples who stayed with me and helped administer first aid; their caring support meant so much and I am eternally grateful.

Also the gentleman who moved my car from the rear to the front car park, not a short distance, but one he achieved surprisingly quickly.

On returning my keys he produced his own towel with which to wrap the injury, before leaving the scene. The towel never returned from the vets but I will gladly replace it if he contacts me.

Finally, the young man who appeared with his dog Rosie just as I was beginning to despair of ever getting Ambrose, now exhausted through loss of blood, to the car.

I will never forget how he picked up my large, very heavy Golden Retriever and carried him to the car, getting covered in blood in the process, as indeed we all were.

Thanks to the prompt and efficient service provided by the Mount Pleasant Veterinary Practice, Ambrose is now 99 per cent recovered, although his injury was severe.

Visitors to the park, please think before throwing glass and other debris into the pond.

This beautiful young dog could have died from such a small, thoughtless action.
