A FATHER who could not support his two children on his part-time earnings from a government agency made fraudulent claims for state benefit, he admitted in court at Kidderminster.
Alan Leeke, 52, of Station Road, Bewdley, was bailed for a pre-sentence report when he admitted making seven false claims and asked for 85 to be taken into account.
He was overpaid £1,175 in just over two years, said Paul Hitchcock, prosecuting for the Benefits Agency.
He made weekly claims for income support without declaring his work as a field officer for the Office for National Statistics.
His solicitor, Jonathon Dollin, told the court Leeke had failed to organise his life and his finances when he was left to care for the children.
The work for the government office, interviewing members of the public, had not been regular, Mr Dollin said.
But he was now earning £10,000 a year from similar work and was repaying the agency.
