WORCESTER badminton ace Simon Archer has made a winning start to his medal quest in Sydney.

Archer and Jo Goode moved into the last 16 of the mixed doubles thanks to a 15-9, 15-9 victory over Canadian pair Robbyn Hermitage and Brent Olynyk.

The pair, who are seeded fifth, will be in action again tomorrow, when Archer also begins his quest for men's doubles glory.

The 27-year-old former Worcester Sixth Form College student is seeded eighth with partner Nathan Robertson.

Kelly Morgan battled back to conquer Aparna Popat of India 5-11 11-7 11-2 in the women's singles to give Great Britain its first victory of Sydney 2000.

The Welshwoman was just four points away from a first-round exit before reeling off seven straight points to capture the second game.
