With reference to the letter of 1 Sept concerning the activities held at the Three Counties Showground a few weekends ago, may I add my own comments.

I live just off the Hanley Road in Malvern Wells, and over the years have noticed with some dismay the increase in not only in the volume of traffic zooming down the Hanley Road at the weekends, but also the noise levels emanating from the showground.

When I first came to live in the area some 25 years ago, the problem of traffic from the showground needed consideration really only during the Three Counties Show week. Noise was not a problem at all.

Now its seems that many different types of events (most generating noise) are held on the site during the year. As well as the expected agricultural activities we now have, for instance, music events, 'good news' weeks, caravan events, you name it we have it, including a couple of weeks ago a kit car show.

The entire weekend of this - judging by the considerable noise - seemed to consist of frustrated Wannabe grand prix drivers screeching around, presumably the road network of the showground (I must say, I'm surprised that there is insurance cover for this sort of thing).

It's bad enough to have to listen to the PA system in operation, never mind the noise these vehicles themselves make.

To add insult to injury, it would appear that most of the Wells were rudely awakened at 11.35pm one recent Saturday (not at this kit car event) by an extremely noisy firework display. Bearing in mind that it was a warm summer night and residents would have had their bedroom windows open, I think it rather arrogant of the organisers not to consider the effect of explosions erupting into the night air at such a time. The local parish council may well have been informed of this event but certainly the majority of residents were not.

I realise that the showground is a business, but please can not some consideration be shown towards the local residents?

Council Tax in the Wells is very high, presumably something to do with the quality of residency. If the aforementioned activities continue, we deserve severe reductions.
