MALVERN Town turned in their best performance of the season when they despatched Gornal Athletic 4-0 at Langland Stadium in the Banks's Brewery League Premier Division.

MALVERN TOWN 4, GORNAL ATHLETIC 0

With Simon Judge, Johnny Hayes and Dene Whittal-Williams returning to the line-up Town were quicker and stronger that Gornal in most areas and after a period of sustained pressure, Simon Judge converted Martin Phillpotts' 15th minute cross to give Town the lead.

Five minutes later Town's Richard Congrave fired home at the far post for a 2-0 half-time lead.

Malvern dominated the second half and in the 55th minute Dene Whittal-Williams arrived late into the penalty area to rifle the ball home.

In the 70th minute substitute and debutante Chris Roberts added the fourth with a simple tap in when the ball ran to him after Judge was pulled down when rounding the keeper for what was an inevitable penalty.

Commenting on the victory Town assistant manager Richard Anson said: "Although Gornal were not the best side we played this season, it was still our most convincing performance. For the first half an hour they never had a kick and I don't think it really mattered how strong they were, as our commitment and movement during the first half would have troubled most sides.

"It was a pity that Tuesday's game at Warley was called off as that would have been a test. But we could not expect some people to make up to a 100 mile round trip and use petrol they could not replace, particularly when vehicles are needed to support your work. Fortunately, the League accepted the situation and allowed for the postponement."

Although availability of fuel is forecast to improve, the Club has asked that supporters keep an eye on Saturday's home League Fixture against Heath Hayes (3pm).

The visitors have to make quite a long trip from Cannock and the game could be in doubt. Supporters are advised that they either ring the Ground or listen to BBC Hereford and Worcester for announcements.

Assuming the game does go ahead, manager Joey Rawle welcomes back Adam Ward and Andy Shepherd from suspension, who will be added to the squad that beat Gornal.

Malvern Town from: Sanders, Higgins, Damore, Cotterill, Hayes, Clayton, Phillpotts, Thomas, Slade, Ward, Brooks, Whittal-Williams, White, Congrave, Judge, Shepherd, Bastock and Roberts.

Joe Maidment and Steve Walker are still serving 35 day suspensions.

The following Saturday Malvern will visit Northern Counties East Premier Division side Arnold Town,in the second qualifying round of the Carlsberg FA Vase. Arnold Town defeated Kirby Muxlough in the 1st Qualifying Round last Saturday.

The Club will be running a Coach and supporters can book seats at Saturday's match. If postponed, book with the Club during the week. There will be charge payable at time of booking.

The Reserves were without a fixture last Saturday, but are due to visit Ledbury in the Banks Brewery Division 1 (S) tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 3pm.
