STOCKING up on petrol at home could cost lives and is illegal, say county trading standards officers.
Anyone who is keeping more that three gallons (15 litres) at home is breaking the law and could be fined up to £5,000, according to Clive Graham, head of Worcestershire's trading standards.
They are also risking their lives and possessions, as petrol can explode with just a spark.
Mr Graham added that if someone had a fire caused by stored petrol, their insurance policy would probably not cover the damage.
To store up to the permitted 15 litres, only approved containers can be used.
Mr Graham said: "Although it is understandable that people wish to store as much fuel as they can, the public must have regard for their safety and the safety of others."
