WEST Worcestershire Conservative MP Sir Michael Spicer says the Government should have done more to get supplies out of refineries.

"The view that the tax on petrol is much too high and should come down is one I sympathise with," he said.

"But the government has been extremely lax in not facing up to this anarchy.

"There are very few people involved in the actual demonstrations and the government should have made sure the police allowed the petrol to flow. We cannot have anarchy bringing the country to a standstill.

"However, in the longer term, taxes have to come down. I serve on the treasury select committee and I told the Chancellor earlier this summer that the government has got to stop taxing people by the back door and cut its cloth according to its limited resources."
