EVESHAM'S young archers gave further substance to their growing reputations when all six returned from the Junior County of Worcester and West Midlands Championships with gold medals.

The rounds were twelve dozen arrow Bristols with the event being hosted at Wythall by the Redhill club.

In the compound bow section Russell Wakely was in devastating form compiling a massive 1236 Bristol 1 to seize the under 18 regional and county titles. His total was just 60 points off the maximum possible for the 80, 60 and 50-yard round.

Nine-year-old Matthew Haines notched up 571 in the 40, 30 and 20 yard Bristol 4 and took both under 12 awards.

Jacquie Williams produced a superb 1034 Bristol 3 and was West Midlands and County of Worcester first under 16 girl.

The recurve bow competitions saw Andrew Crowther registering a top quality 1076 to secure West Midlands and county honours in the under 16 Bristol.

The current indoor title holder also received the boys' Open Trophy as one of the highest overall scorers on the day. Tim Haines recorded an admirable 930 Bristol 3 at 50, 40 and 30 yards and was double under 14 winner.

The girls' under 16 Bristol 3 once more saw Helen Gath clashing with the Severn club's Laura Elderkin.

Helen amassed an excellent 1014, claimed a blue rose for a total in excess of 1000 and now has junior bowman status. But, in a repeat of March's indoor championships, she finished second in the county and West Midlands.

However, she too took gold when, with Russell Wakely, Andrew Crowther and Tim Haines, Evesham reigned supreme in the team event.
