DROITWICH Spa Rugby Club's newly formed under 15s Girls Tag Rugby Team have been invited to compete against the country's top teams in a national tournament this weekend.

The 14-strong squad will head off to Guildford to compete against 15 of the country's best girls' tag teams.

Spa's team has been selected from its recent success at last month's Millennium Youth Games in Southampton.

Representing Wychavon, the team, largely from Droitwich High School, finished runners-up from 42 competing teams.

Coach Kirsty Protherough said: "We are proud that the squad has been recognised as one of the top teams in the UK and has the chance to compete at such a high level.

"The coaches and the players themselves are putting a lot of hard work into their game and they deserve to do well."

There will be a display of tag rugby before the first team's home match against Trinity Guild this Saturday.
