MATTHEW Vaux-Harvey, of Stourport Athletic Club, came third on Sunday in the AAA National 10k road championships in Bradford.

This was his best performance to date, as he beat several British internationals on the hilly two-lap course, smashing his personal best by more than 40 seconds to record 29 minutes 31 seconds to take the bronze medal.

On Sunday he will be in action at Portsmouth in the Great South Run, a 10-mile road race.

His main target for the autumn is the AAA half-marathon championships on Sunday, October 8, which is also the trial race for the Great Britain team to compete in the world half-marathon championships in Mexico in November.

l Steve Gould and Tom Kenderdine, of Kidderminster Running Club, also took part in the AAA National 10k at Bradford.

In a top class field of over 450 runners, Gould recorded a time of 33-55 for 145th position, and Kenderdine 34-06 for 148th.

Terry Minahan clocked 1 hour 14-38 at the Newbury 10-mile road race.

On Sunday, Ron Lynes took part in the New Forest half-marathon where he came first in the 55-59 age-group and 76th overall out of 1,200 runners in a time of 1-30-25.
