EVESHAM hosted its 11th Father and Son Open competition on Sunday.

Glorious sunshine and calm conditions contributed to some excellent scores throughout the day.

More than 40 various club's were represented among the 120 competitors, some travelling from as far a field as Yorkshire and Middlesex to participate in the annual event.

Captain Mike Whiteford presented the prizes and thanked all those who had ensured another successful event, including the competitors, who contributed £91 to the Air Ambulance Fund.

Home pair Richard Minton and son Ben won the Loll Payne Trophy for the second successive year, scoring 43 points.

The next three pairs tied on 41 points with placings decided on back nine countback.

Runners up were A Roberts and son (The Worcs/Woburn), ahead of third placed, W Corfield and son (Coxmoor/Kington).

The Vale/Evesham pair John Locke and son looked certain winners after amassing 25 points on the front nine holes but eventually had to settle for fourth place with only 16 points on the back nine. C Ryan and son (The Vale) on 40 points were fifth.

JOYCELYN Wheeler won the LGU and Pendant event staged in drizzly conditions and contested by just 28 lady members.

The winner, playing off 18, carded a net score of 70 to win the Silver Division, edging out Juliet Bourne on countback to take the overall prize.
