A STRONG Worcestershire XI narrowly defeated Elmley Castle in a benefit match for Stuart Lampitt.
After the loss of David Leatherdale for a duck, county duo Richard Illingworth (102) and Ryan Driver (97) assumed control and set the platform for a formidable score of 270-5 from their 40 overs.
Elmley lost three cheap wickets but solid middle order knocks from Neil Cooper (77), Rob Eaton (40) and Simon Cooper (69) prompted a tense finish before the county took the honours by six runs.
After the game, watched by a boundary filled crowd, the popular Lampitt was presented with a cheque for £2,000. He thanked everyone involved with particular mention of Ian Woodford, who had organised the whole successful event.
