KIDDERMINSTER Police hope to be at the cutting edge of dealing with the problem of under-age drinking during a month-long campaign in a town estate.
They are looking to call time on the problem after joining forces with the Town Centre Crime and Disorder Working Group and members of the Horsefair and Broadwaters Community Safety Partnership to launch Operation Razor.
They aim to reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents of disorder in the town centre and Horsefair areas involving youngsters - which have been commonplace in recent months.
Police are stepping up evening patrols and warn alcohol will be seized from anyone believed to be under 18.
They will also pay regular visits to on and off-licensed premises.
Members of the Kidderminster Licensees Association, which is backing the campaign, are also contacting shopkeepers to ensure they are extra vigilant when serving young people, and request proof of age when necessary.
PC Paul Green, of Kidderminster Police, said: "We will be targeting those young people who insist on getting drunk and engaging in activity which reduces the vast majority of people's enjoyment of the town centre and Horsefair areas in the evening.
"Success in this operation should make a welcome difference to those who are not causing problems."
