BROMSGROVE Rugby Club's First XV contested their 'friendly' with Kenilworth as keenly as any other with, regrettably, some early experiences of the new laws on foul play.
Despite all the disruptions, the Finstall Park outfit put up a heartening and spirited performance to win 32-16.
With a five-point interval lead, the match fell into disarray when the referee had to warn the Kenilworth scrum half for kicking Steve Phillips on the ground.
Unfortunately, a Phillips challenge was judged as retribution and high tempers prompted a melee. Phillips was yellow carded and second row Jon Taylor was given a red card, with the prospect of suspension from further games.
Other scores were: Old Halesonians 31 Bromsgrove Second XV 22; Bromsgrove Third XV 38 Old Halesonians 0; Dudley Kingswinford 20 Bromsgrove Fourth XV 17; Bromsgrove Colts XV 29 Old Halesonians 3.
