WORCESTER'S Robert McCracken has decided to campaign as a super-middleweight boxer in the future in the hope that he can secure a new world title shot.

The former Commonwealth middleweight champion made an unsuccessful bid to try and win the WBC world middleweight title in April.

He was stopped in 11 rounds by American Keith Holmes at Wembley and now feels that his future is better served by campaigning in the higher division.

McCracken is gunning for a shot at the new WBC world super-middleweight champion Dingaan Thobela who beat Bristol's Glenn Catley earlier this month.

He said: "The title is being passed around almost at will at the moment and I would be ready to go to South Africa to meet Thobela. "He was only ranked 24 in the world before he won the title and he is certainly not top notch.

"The super-middle-weight division is now side open and I am just hoping that I will not have to wait as long for a new title shot as I did when I fought Holmes."

The stoppage defeat at the hands of Holmes was the first of McCracken's 34-fight career.
