DROITWICH CC's First XI gained a creditable winning draw and 15 more points when they entertained Hereford-shire side Luctonians on Saturday.

It was a fine all-round performance from Paul Bryan's men, who were looking to build on their recent improved form and consolidate their mid-table position.

Batting first on a true pitch, Spa lost an early wicket but Richard Holgate (37) and Mike Gunston (28) gave the home side a solid platform to work from.

Stuart Bryan (20) and Geoff Ford (21) chipped in with useful knocks until in-form skipper Ian Duggan blazed another 50 runs.

Paul Bryan made a welcome return to the batting fray with a rapid 26 not out as Spa finished with an impressive 235-8.

Luctonians set off at an impressive rate and put on 70 for the first wicket until S Price (33) was out to Gunston (1-28).

Karl Pierson (70) and M Scott (62) put the visitors in the driving seat until some steady bowling from Paul Bryan (2-48) and Mike Wallis (2-26), assisted by several crazy run outs, saw the visitors' challenge slump. They finished up blocking out for the draw at 207-8.

Meanwhile, Spa's Sunday side have escaped relegation from the V-Sports League Premier Division following three victories in their last three matches.

After wins over Kenilworth Wardens and Worcester, Dave Scott-Walker's superb knock of 85 handed Droitwich the points in their clash with Old Edwardians on Sunday.

Skipper Paul Bryan said: "It's been a good team effort from the lads over the past month.

"The form we've shown over the last four to six weeks on both a Saturday and Sunday has kept us in the top flight."
