A WORCESTER father has hit out at First Midland Red, claiming his son was "nearly dragged down the road" when his foot became trapped in a bus door.

Richard Marshall said his wife was getting out of the number 43 bus near their Tunnel Hill home with their son Kieran when the driver shut the doors, trapping the three-year-old's foot.

"Jennifer got out of the bus holding Kieran's hand. The door closed on his leg and the driver pulled off," said the 26-year-old father-of-four.

"She screamed at him to stop and he did, but only because she yelled at him. I don't think he saw."

Mr Marshall said his wife had been so upset about the incident, which happened on Tuesday, August 29, it had taken her a week to tell him about it.

"She phoned the bus company the same day but it appears the driver gave a false identity number as he only gave her four digits and it's meant to have six," he said.

Mr Marshall said his wife felt as though she was being "fobbed off".

"She was asked if she wanted to lodge a formal complaint but she couldn't because she had the wrong number and no name," he said.

"It's a reputable company and they should have competent drivers. We're not looking for any money, we just want drivers like that re-tested. It could happen to somebody else and it could be worse next time."

First Midland Red commercial manager Austin Birks said he was "perplexed" that Mrs Marshall had not been successful in her attempt to lodge a complaint.

"This kind of thing is distressing and it's important for all parties involved to find out what happened," said Mr Birks.

"If anyone has a complaint we encourage people to let us know in writing so we can formally investigate it.

"Our policy is to direct everything through our head office, where we have trained staff to help. I'm perplexed that this didn't happen."

Mr Birks said he would like Mrs Marshall to contact him personally and he would be able to investigate the incident based on details such as time and place.
