A WOMAN was in intensive care today after the car she was driving was in a collision near Stourport-on-Severn.

Michele Lawrence, of Petersfield, Droitwich, was taken to Ronkswood A&E with multiple injuries after the Citroen Saxo she was in was in an accident with a Leyland DAF lorry on the A4025 Worcester to Stourport road at Chadwick Bank.

Firecrews from Kidderminster, Stourport, and an emergency tender from Worcester were scrambled to the scene.

Ms Lawrence, in her late 20s, was then transferred to Redditch's Alexandra Hospital were her condition was today described as stable.

The driver of the lorry, Derek Marshall, of Sheffield, suffered leg and back injuries but was not taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said the incident happened as Ms Lawrence was driving towards Stourport and the lorry was travelling in the opposite direction.

Investigating officer PC Andrew White, of Kidderminster police, appealed for any witnesses to the incident, which happened at 1.45pm yesterday, to contact him.

"There weren't any vehicles following either of them when the accident happened," he said.

"So I'd appeal for anyone with any information on the incident to contact me on 01562 820888."
