KIDDERMINSTER Cricket Club produced a dismal display when they were shot out for just 78 as Cannock clinched the Birmingham and District Premier League title on Saturday.

Luckily the town side had already guaranteed their place in the top flight because their performance was well below par.

Despite dismissing the home side for just 162, they crashed to a 84-run defeat and collected just four points.

Cannock captain Laurie Potter almost defeated Kidderminster single-handed in the previous meeting at Chester Road, and he was the match-winner again on Saturday, hitting 52 and claiming 4-14.

Potter and former Worcestershire player Paul Thomas scored 115 of the 162 runs between them.

In Kidderminster's favour was the three run-outs they achieved.

With Worcestershire's James Pipe and Elliott Wilson batting for Kidderminster, one would have expected a better performance, but as has often happened this season, Kidderminster seemed unable to apply the dead bat.

Veteran Godfrey Lamb and skipper Mark Mansell got into double figures, but only Matthew Fludgate offered any real threat.

Cannock 162 (P Thomas 63, L Potter 52. M Sellek 3-62, N Slade 3-55) Kidderminster 78 (M Fludgate 23, G Lamb 11. L Potter 4-14).
