FOLLOWING on from the ASDA fiasco, it appears to be the turn of NEW College to have their every wish granted by Bromsgrove Council.

With the council's tunnel vision in developing the area into a 'Leisure Mecca,' Whitbread's plans for a restaurant and hotel complex on the college site must seem irresistible.

However, this clearly demonstrates classic short-termism on the part of both council land and college; once the land has been given over to this use, it has gone forever.

While an argument can be made in favour of an arts centre, there is simply no demand for hotel facilities by the local residents.

Apart from the creation of some mainly low-value, part-time jobs, how can a conference venue and crowd-pull mega pub benefit the people of Bromsgrove?
