WORCESTER businesses baffled by technology can now seek help from a "jargon-busting" technology guide.

A survey of 200 small businesses in Britain, undertaken by RSL COM UK, found that the majority of small and medium businesses struggle with new technology.

When asked about the internet, 63 per cent said the technology industry did not do enough to explain its benefits in layman's terms, 77 per cent said the Government did not do enough, and more than 80 per cent said they had no idea of the benefits of broadband internet.

"Most of today's small and medium-sized businesses recognise the internet as a crucial business tool but many feel they aren't making the most of the opportunity it presents them as they simply don't understand enough about the technology," said RSL COM group business development director Gary Sheppard.

"The Government is always talking about its push to launch small and medium-sized companies into e-business, through a host of new initiatives and programmes, but when it comes to the basics, like explaining to these businesses exactly how the internet and new technologies will help them, they are clearly falling short of the mark."

Mr Sheppard said RSL COM was currently developing a series of new technology guides, written specifically for the small and medium business market, in simple terms, to help guide them out of the "jargon jungle".

The first guide addresses ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - which allows businesses to send a lot more information down a single line by increasing the bandwidth.
