THE VALE of Evesham had virtually run dry of petrol by mid morning on Tuesday.

Motorists had been causing chaos panic buying around the clock and blocking roads with their queues.

BP in High Street was one of the few remaining garages still serving at 11.30am. Manager Arthur Knott said: "We had 25,000 litres of unleaded delivered yesterday and it's all gone and we won't get any more this week, however we've still got about three days of diesel left. Tesco's on the Worcester Road ran dry and closed on Monday night and the Bridge Garage in Evesham ran out of petrol on Monday and diesel on Tuesday morning.

Police have praised garage owners who have made sure that emergency services are supplied with fuel.
