A PLAN for 13 new homes in Cleobury Mortimer has raised hopes the area will be better able to meet a growing demand for affordable housing.

Parish councillors are set to make a site visit to land at Pinkham after news of a coming application for outline planning permission lodge with South Shropshire District Council.

The plan to build houses on land at a now disused coal yard needs conservation area consent and developers want alterations to the present access there.

Chairman of the parish council Adrian Pearce said: "We will have to take a look before we make comment.

"But on the face of it, it looks as if the plan for non-executive type homes will help to redress the imbalance between the low number of affordable homes in Cleobury compared with the supply of more expensive new homes that have been built here."

Representations have to be with the district council planning officer by September 21.
