ENGINEERING student Aidan Krier has made it through to the regional finals of a national competition to reward enterprise.

Aidan, aged 20, comes from Temple Guiting, but is studying engineering science at Oxford University. He came through the Gloucestershire heat of the Shell Technology Enterprise Programme (STEP) last week and will now represent the county at the south west regional final in Exeter on September 14.

Aidan spent the summer working for Andoversford-based Positek where he designed and built a new coil-winding machine.

The STEP programme places second-year students in businesses and Business Link business adviser Judy Lambourne said: "The project has proved invaluable to both Positek and Aidan. Not only has his machine proved to be reliable and accurate, the experience has also provided him with an understanding of how an engineering business operates."
