A KEEN student from Kidderminster is off to Cambridge after racking up five top-notch A-levels - before most people of his age have even taken one!

Michael Stubbington, of Yew Tree Road, is hoping to pursue a career in pharmaceutical research in America when he completes his natural sciences degree at the famous university.

And he is likely to graduate earlier than most people, having scored five grade As in biology, chemistry, physics, maths and general studies this year while still a 17-year-old.

Michael has been younger than his classmates for several years since it was decided he would start middle school a year early as his birthday - September 14 - is so close to the cut-off point.

And the King Charles I High School student is raring to go as he prepares for his studies at Selwyn College in the historic city.

He said: "I was pleased to get these results. Cambridge still holds some prestige and the facilities there are excellent.

"Long term I fancy travelling and would like to work in pharmaceutical research in America where all the big firms are," added Michael, who relaxes by mountain biking, playing squash and watching live bands.
