WORCESTER Nomads Sunday 1st X1 visited Weoley Hill in Birmingham and took part in a remarkable match during the course of which there was three hat-tricks and two centuries.
WEOLEY HILL v WORCESTER NOMADS
Weoley Hill batted first and reached 225 which included a century by Stan Picton and a fine piece of pace bowling by Azmat Riaf, just returned from University, Azmat took a hat-trick in his haul of six wickets for 59.
And in reply it was again Azmat who led the way with a fine 68; but it was fifteen-year- old James Watkins who scored the century for Nomads. His 113 showed maturity and technique beyond his years and he was able to accelerate his scoring as the innings progressed. Azmat and James having opened the innings were finally dismissed with the score on 206, but at that stage with three overs left and 20 runs required.
The next five batsmen were overwhelmed by the medium pace of Howard Clay who produced the remarkable feat of two hat-tricks in this exiting match and Nomads had to settle for a draw with seven wickets down and still 20 runs required.
Probably one of the most memorable matches played by either side this year and also many seasons past.
