Evesham & District Wheelers

Evesham Wheelers staged their annual open 25 mile time trial for the Ted Warmington trophy last Sunday.

After a last minute change of course due to road works on the planned Wickhamford to Bishops Cleeve course, the event was held on the harder Evesham to Toddington route.

The conditions stayed fine, but a niggling wind seemed to persist on the outward and home stretch hampering any record breaking rides.

The event was won for the second year running by Tim Wood, of Worcester St John's, in 55.53 and the fastest lady was Judy Purkis, of Coventry RC, at 1.08.49. The fastest vet on standard and on time was R Minovi coming in at 56.38.

Evesham times were Tom Brazier (junior) 1.01.51, Dave Burfoot 1.02.26, Ken Haynes (vet) 1.02.35, Steve Sandalls 1.04.54, Mark Brazier (vet) 1.06.11, Martin Hall 1.06.25, Richard Rhodes (vet) 1.09.11, Adrian Main 1.12.25

Ken Haynes travelled to Essex to ride in the Unity CC open 25 TT.

Ken recorded his sixth consecutive under the hour ride of the season with a 59.23 to take sixth place. The winner was R Smith, of CCCP, in 55.26.

Three Evesham members travelled to Wythall last Saturday to compete in the Redditch Road And Path CC 10 mile TT.

In blustery and wet conditions Ken Haynes recorded a 22.34 to take 13th position, Dave Burfoot 23.13 and Adrian Main 26.54.

In the club 25 time trial the previous Wednesday Ian Likeman took the honours with an excellent 59.03, Dave Burfoot 1.01.25, Adrian Mayhew 1.03.09, Steve Sandalls 1.04.44, Rudi Ligthert 1.05.31 and Martin Hall 1.07.33.

In the mountain bike section Steve McGrath and Andy Dolphin competed in the Rav 4 National championships at Plymouth on the purpose-built world cup course.

Up against stiff competition McGrath battled on to take 13th position with Dolphin steadily improving to take 37th.

This Sunday the club run is to Warwick, meet in the High Street at 9am.

The next club time trial is on August 16 at Teddington.
