Evesham Sailing Club

LAST Sunday at Evesham Sailing Club nine boats enjoyed the warm sunshine, with two races, one offering frustration and the other the best sailing has to offer.

The first race took place in almost flat calm conditions with the whole fleet drifting with the current and enjoying the sun.

Ian Haywood was the first to take advantage of a short breath of air. He took a 30 yard lead and stayed in front to the end.

The other eight boats battled it out for second and third over the hour, each taking the lead in turn, but it was Peter Green who crept out and took second place with Paul Baylis just behind.

A breeze came in from the south to make the second race different. The steady wind meant each boat taking the lead in turn.

However, at the end of the second lap under pressure Haywood made a mistake at the top buoy and Green broke clear and did not look back.

Although Haywood tried hard he could not make any inroads into Green's lead until the last lap which was too late.

Green finished first, Haywood second with Paul Baylis sailing out of the chasing fleet to take third at the end of an enjoyable contest.
