Broadway Golf Club
VISITORS from 20 clubs from as far afield as Bakewell and Saunton joined with local lady members to compete for prizes in the 18 hole Open held at Broadway.
In conditions that were good, but rather hot down the bottom part of the course, most of the prizes went to local members.
Silver division: First net Catherine Crocker (Saunton) 84-15-69; second Diana Chambers 86-16-70; third Pam Hooper 87-15-72 on last nine from Sigrid Butler. Best gross, Jenny Foxon 83.
Bronze division: First net Marianne Hicken 91-22-69; second, Sally Campbell 95-26-69; third, Sonia Ward 94-23-71 on back nine from Jay Dowty and June Evans. Best gross, Una Tait 93 (Chipping Norton).
Some of the earlier golfers went out again that day to play in a nine hole foursomes competition. First was Jenny Holt and Eleanor Harrower 20 points with Lesley Gee and Pauline Russell second with 18.
The Jubilee Salver was won by Diana Chambers (silver) and the Broadway Cup, Marianne Hicken (bronze).
