Blockley racer Peter Cate's jinks struck again on Sunday in the latest round of the Autobytel Lotus Elise Championship.

Cate had settled for a tenth place finish in Sunday's second race of the weekend when his throttle cable snapped on his Anadin sponsored car and another finish eluded the disconsolate Cotswold driver

"It's been dreadful again this weekend," said a dejected Cate. "That's eight mechanical failures this season and it's really becoming embarrassing.

"Main sponsors Anadin have been great and I would like to give it another go next season. I always like to do two years," he added.

Cate's Donington Park double header had got off to a great start the previous day when he qualified fourth fastest, little more than a second behind pole starter Adam Wilcox at an average speed of 86.24 mph

However, hopes of a similar place finish were again hit by mechanical trouble when a gear box fault left him struggling for power on the latter stages of the 15 lap race.

He finally finished 11th, his grid slot for Sunday's second race.

Cate was quickly up to 10th on the first bend, but a spin on lap four sent him careering back into 19th position.

The Blockley driver showed glimpses of his true potential as he rode himself back into the top ten.

But disaster struck with just half a lap remaining and Cate was left reflecting on another frustrating afternoon.

"As I came out of McLeans, the throttle pedal just fell to the floor and I was left with no drive. It seems the throttle pedal snapped just below the pedal."

Once again Cate had to leave the track with a frustratingly low points tally.

"I have to look at this as a learning experience for next year. Each time we have a car failure, I guess it's one less problem to worry about next time."

Cate will have another chance to make his mark at Brands Hatch on August 27-28 at another double-header event.

He was at the top of the timesheets there in testing at the beginning of the season and claimed a podium finish at the track last year ahead of Touring Car driver Alan Morrison in the Vauxhall Vectra Sri V6 Challenge.

Eventually Cate's poor run of luck in the Lotus has to end.
