ANOTHER series of first class 10 mile time trial results were achieved by Stratford CC riders in open races over the weekend.

At St Neots on one of the fastest 10 mile courses in the country, both Robin Corder and Trevor Acreman came close to the current club record.

The race was actually won by the ex-Tour de France rider Sean Yates in 19 mins 20 secs.

However, both Stratford riders did well to produce times of 21 mins 16 secs for Corder, which was also a personal best at the distance, and 21 mins 24 secs for Acreman.

Meanwhile, closer to home Simon Phillips produced another memorable ride of exactly 22 minutes on the local Wythall course near Birmingham.

Graham Chandler also rode the event recording his fastest time of the season with 23 mins and 07 secs.

The warm and calm conditions were in complete contrast to the previous week when Chandler and John Oxtoby rode the unusual distance of 30 miles on a tough and hilly course at Twycross in North Warwickshire. Although both riders finished in the top 20 on actual time, they were both well outside their scheduled rides.

Mike Carty and Simon Phillips encountered similar conditions in the Reading CC 25 mile race where Carty's 62 mins 15 secs illustrated the difficulties on the day and Phillips 58 mins 56 secs proved to be good enough for a top 10 placing.

Nigel Jones and Nigel Humphries both rode the Oxford CC road race and were satisfied to finish in the main field of their respective races with Jones riding the 90 mile senior race and Humphries the shorter 48 mile event.
