FUN and games, mixed with some serious learning, were on the agenda for the annual North Cotswold Hunt Pony Club five day rally last week.
The rally is the main teaching event of the year run by the club at Springhill, near Broadway. Youngsters aged 11 and over spend five days there, while the juniors have four days.
During this time, they have sessions in show jumping, cross country and dressage, as well as mounted games. Instructors also spend time on dismounted sessions ensuring youngsters learn more about caring for their horse or pony.
The emphasis of the week is on fun for both riders and their horses, with plenty of picnics and socialising, but it has a serious message to encourage Pony Club members to improve their riding and knowledge too.
Participants were also able to take their Pony Club D and D+ tests after some intensive coaching during the rally.
The North Cotswold Hunt Pony Club has also had a busy week this week with a one day event and Riding and Road Safety tests. The next event is a members fun ride up Bredon Hill for eight to 12-year-olds next Tuesday. Anyone wanting to find out more about the Pony Club or how to join can call the club's headquarters on 024 7669 8300.
