A SPECIAL guest just might pop up at a performance by one of the Midlands' best known tribute acts in Stourport next week.

Fred Zeppelin will be harking back to the days of Kevin Keegan perms and flared jeans when they drop into The Outback in the town on the only Wyre Forest date of their current live schedule on Thursday, August 10.

And they have not ruled out a visit from Robert Plant, who lives in the district and was a member of legendary 1970s rockers Led Zeppelin - he has watched the group three times during their six year career!

"Having him show up a few times has really given us extra credibility," said Freds drummer Steve Black.

"It can be nice playing in the Kidderminster area, especially when there is a good crowd and there is the chance that Robert might show up - although when he has done in the past, obviously the fans recognise him very quickly and he gets mobbed!"

The group - also featuring vocalist Steven Gale, bass player Kev Brown and guitarist Keith Jenkins - have been featured on television, performed to a crowd of 15,000 at a festival in Derby and are set to appear in Large, a forthcoming film from the makers of Four Weddings and a Funeral.

They have been cited as the best of the many Led Zeppelin tribute acts by Dave Lewis, editor of the band's Tight But Loose fanzine.

Mr Black said they had scaled down their band commitments in recent years but were still very much in demand.

"We've been doing it for six years, but we love it and it's still a lot of fun," he said.

"Throw away those sticks and zimmer frames, get some new batteries in the hearing aid and get the grandkids to give you a lift to the next Fred Zeppelin gig - Wrinkle Rock lives!"

Doors open at 8.30pm for the Stourport show with the band on stage at 9pm. Entry is £5 on the door with a limited amount of advance discount tickets available from the venue, which can be contacted on 01299 826177.
